Reminder for Parents: Student Illness Guidelines
As we work together to keep our school community healthy, please remember to follow the MES/MJH Student Handbook guidelines regarding student illnesses.
When to Keep Your Child Home:
✅ Fever – A temperature of 100.4°F or higher is considered a fever. If your child has had a fever within the past 24 hours, they should stay home. Even if their temperature is lower in the morning, they may still be contagious and could develop a fever later in the day. Fever-reducing medications only temporarily lower the temperature and do not cure the illness. Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school.
✅ Other Symptoms:
Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
Body rash with itching or fever
Severe cough and/or excessive drainage
Redness, itching, or pus draining from the eye
Recently been in the hospital or ER
When Your Child Can Return to School:
✔️ Fever-free for 24 hours without medication
✔️ Free from vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours without medication
✔️ Free from rash, itching, or fever
✔️ Free from excessive drainage or cleared by a doctor
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and healthy!
